Film Reel Sizes

Our Process:

  1. We clean incoming film with a film cleaner highly regarded in the film transfer industry. This chemical helps upgrade the quality and remove some of the “wear and tear” that old reels can bring. It also lubricates the film so it can run smoothly in our machines.
  2. We then repair the film which involves re-splicing film and fixing broken sprockets. Much of the dust and dirt is removed during this step, and is the main reason your film will look great in the end!
  3. Finally, we transfer your film to VHS and then DVD and add complimentary easy listening music over top!

What You Get:
Send us your reels and instructions. Your return product will be as follows:

  1. Your original film secured together.
  2. A VHS master tape. We send you this in case you decide to make additional copies in the future.
  3. A finished DVD in a Family Memories case. We label the DVD as per your instructions.

**Your reels and tapes will be secured safely in your return package. We try to minimize the chance of damage during delivery by adding plenty of environmentally friendly packing material!

FAQ
How long does it take to get my film transferred?
Once we get your reels, it takes 3-5 business days to complete the order. We then mail it back through UPS at which ever shipping option you wish.

What if the footage I send you doesn’t have any usable footage!
Sometimes old reels will have degraded areas that cannot be transferred.  However, this occurs infrequently. We do not charge you for any footage we do not transfer.  Therefore, if you send us 2000 feet but only 500 feet is viewable, we only charge you for the 500 feet.

How many reels can fit on to a DVD?
This depends on the size of your reels.  The most common type of reels we receive are 3” reels, which contain about 50ft of film. We can fit between 25-35 of these small reels on to a DVD, which holds up to 2 hours of video. This comes out to about 1800 feet.

Do you add music to film transfers?

We only add complimentary music if there is not an original soundtrack. The music we add is easy listening which does not interfere with the video. If you send us film with an existing soundtrack, we will not add any music.
